WNL Round-Up: Section 2 Completes

Section 2 of the league wrapped up while the title race in section 1 is still tight.

Women’s National League Section 1

Peamount United 3-0 Cork City

In a rehearsal for the FAI Cup final next month, Peamount kept their title hopes alive with a win against Cork. Early goals from McCartan and Duggan sent Peas on their way. O’Gorman scored just past the half hour mark to seal the win. Next week Peamount take on Shelbourne with the winner becoming league champions.

Galway 0-2 Wexford Youths

Wexford all but guaranteed a 3rd place finish with a win over Galway. Orlaith Conlon opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Ellen Molloy scored just before halftime time, with a super shot from outside the box that found the bottom right corner.

Women’s National League Section 2

Athlone Town 2-1 Bohemians

In a hard fought game Athlone picked up the 3 points to end their season on a high. Emma Donohoe got both goals for the home side.

Treaty United 0-3 DLR Waves

DLR finished top of section 2 with a 0-3 win. They got their first in the 45th minute. Carla McManus got the second, her first goal for the club. Captain Catherine Cronin scored the 3rd late on.

Table

Permutations

Peamount United take on Shelbourne next week. The winner will be champions. If it is a draw Peamount would need to beat Wexford on the final day. A draw between Peamount and Shelbourne and a draw against Wexford would mean there would need to be a play-off.

The game kicks off at 6pm, and will be live streamed by the FAI.

Elsewhere Wexford Youths take on Cork on Saturday at 2pm.

WNL Round-Up: 17 Goals in 3 Games

3 more games this weekend. During the week we have a Champions League tie and two FAI Cup semi-finals.

Bohemians 4-5 Treaty United

Bohs led 3-2 at halftime, but Treaty came back to win late on. First half goals from Shauna Newman, Aoife Robinson, and Sophie Watters had Bohs in front. Gillian Keenan and Aoife Horgan kept Treaty United in the game. Keenan got another before Jenna Slattery put the Limerick side ahead. A late Robinson goal looked to have secured a point for Bohs, but Chloe Connolly scored 3 minutes into injury time to seal the win for Treaty.

Shelbourne 4-0 Cork City

Shels moved top of the table having played one more game than Peamount. First half goals from Rachel Graham and Jess Gargan put them in control. Cork had their goalkeeper sent off, and Emily Whelan made it 3-0. Pearl Slattery sealed the win on the hour mark.

Wexford Youths 3-1 Galway

Wexford kept their title hopes alive with a win over Galway. After a scoreless first half, Sinead Taylor put Wexford ahead with her first goal for the side, before Aoife Thompson equalized shortly after. An Ellen Molloy double secured the win for Wexford.
