WNL Round-Up: Peamount Are Champions Of Ireland

Peamount United have retained the Women’s National League.

Peamount United 3-1 Shelbourne

Peas came from behind with Aine O’Gorman the hero to claim the WNL title. After a scoreless first half, Shels opened the scoring immediately in the second half. O’Gorman fired in a free kick to equalize. Karen Duggan’s header off a Megan Smyth-Lynch corner put Peas in front with 12 minutes to go. O’Gorman got a second with 4 minutes to go to seal the win.

Wexford Youths 2-2 Cork City

The other game in the WNL was a 4-goal thriller. Lauren Egbuloniu turned in a cross to put the away side in front early on. Wexford were reduced to 10 women after Conlon saw red. Kira Bates Crosbie equalized in the second half with her first senior goal. Crosbie turned provider as she set up Aisling Frawley to finish in the bottom right corner to give Wexford the lead. Katie McCarthy’s lobbed shot found the net to ensure the spoils were shared.

WNL Round-Up: Section 2 Completes

Section 2 of the league wrapped up while the title race in section 1 is still tight.

Women’s National League Section 1

Peamount United 3-0 Cork City

In a rehearsal for the FAI Cup final next month, Peamount kept their title hopes alive with a win against Cork. Early goals from McCartan and Duggan sent Peas on their way. O’Gorman scored just past the half hour mark to seal the win. Next week Peamount take on Shelbourne with the winner becoming league champions.

Galway 0-2 Wexford Youths

Wexford all but guaranteed a 3rd place finish with a win over Galway. Orlaith Conlon opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Ellen Molloy scored just before halftime time, with a super shot from outside the box that found the bottom right corner.

Women’s National League Section 2

Athlone Town 2-1 Bohemians

In a hard fought game Athlone picked up the 3 points to end their season on a high. Emma Donohoe got both goals for the home side.

Treaty United 0-3 DLR Waves

DLR finished top of section 2 with a 0-3 win. They got their first in the 45th minute. Carla McManus got the second, her first goal for the club. Captain Catherine Cronin scored the 3rd late on.

Peamount United take on Shelbourne next week. The winner will be champions. If it is a draw Peamount would need to beat Wexford on the final day. A draw between Peamount and Shelbourne and a draw against Wexford would mean there would need to be a play-off.

The game kicks off at 6pm, and will be live streamed by the FAI.

Elsewhere Wexford Youths take on Cork on Saturday at 2pm.
