We’ve had many in the green jersey, most recently Brady’s goal against Italy in Euro 2016, and the Ireland WNT recent success. The U21’s look to have potential to be future stars for the boys in green.

But yesterday marked the anniversary of a great Irish football moment in red, that took place at Old Trafford. On April 23rd 2003, John O’Shea nutmegged Luis Figo in a Champions League game.

It was such a legendary moment, that only grainy out of focus footage of it can be found.

Real Madrid would win the tie 5 – 6 on aggregate. Real won La Liga that season. A few years later Figo went to Inter Milan and won 4 Serie A titles in a row. Despite this success, we are sure he would admit his greatest achievement was only being nutsed by O’Shea once.

John O’Shea played for Manchester United until 2011, before moving to Sunderland. He ended his career at Reading. O’Shea made 118 appearances for the Republic of Ireland, and scored the equalizer in the away draw against Germany in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.
