WNL Round-Up: 17 Goals in 3 Games

3 more games this weekend. During the week we have a Champions League tie and two FAI Cup semi-finals.

Bohemians 4-5 Treaty United

Bohs led 3-2 at halftime, but Treaty came back to win late on. First half goals from Shauna Newman, Aoife Robinson, and Sophie Watters had Bohs in front. Gillian Keenan and Aoife Horgan kept Treaty United in the game. Keenan got another before Jenna Slattery put the Limerick side ahead. A late Robinson goal looked to have secured a point for Bohs, but Chloe Connolly scored 3 minutes into injury time to seal the win for Treaty.

Shelbourne 4-0 Cork City

Shels moved top of the table having played one more game than Peamount. First half goals from Rachel Graham and Jess Gargan put them in control. Cork had their goalkeeper sent off, and Emily Whelan made it 3-0. Pearl Slattery sealed the win on the hour mark.

Wexford Youths 3-1 Galway

Wexford kept their title hopes alive with a win over Galway. After a scoreless first half, Sinead Taylor put Wexford ahead with her first goal for the side, before Aoife Thompson equalized shortly after. An Ellen Molloy double secured the win for Wexford.

WNL Round-Up: End of Phase 1

Last weekend was the final scheduled round of phase 1 of the league. However there is still a game to be played in phase 1. During the week Peamount beat DLR Waves 3-2.

Treaty United 0-7 Shelbourne

Shels secured the 2nd biggest win of this seasons Women’s National League, putting 7 past Treaty in Limerick. Two first half goals from Whelan, and one each from Grant and Murray put Shels in control. In the second half Gargan scored 2 and Dodd got another one.

DLR Waves 0-2 Wexford Youths

DLR Waves hosted Wexford at the UCD Bowl. The opening exchanges were fairly even with both sides cancelling eachother out. The deadlock was broken through Belssing Kingsley’s goal which game out of nowhere. Aoibeheann Clancy scored off a rebounded freekick late on to seal the win. Wexford have finished in the top section of the league, despite still having a phase 1 game remaining against Galway.

There was a special guest at the UCD Bowl. Abi Ward has been working tirelessly to raise money for Pieta House and Focus Ireland. Abi has been doing 4K a day for 19 days, then on day 20 she is running a half marathon. Graham Kelly and the rest of the DLR Waves team invited Abi to the game on Saturday.

Cork City 1-2 Galway

Galway ended Cork’s winning run on Saturday. Lynsey McKey scored just before the hour mark, and then late on. Becky Cassin’s goal made for a nervy ending but Galway held out.

Bohemians 1-0 Athlone Town

Bohemians got their first ever Women’s National League win to move off the foot of the table. Niamh Kenna got the goal.

At the time of writing the remaining game between Wexford Youths and Galway has yet to be confirmed. Next week is the start of phase 2 of the league. The league will split, with the tip 5 teams playing eachother and the bottom 4 teams playing eachother.
