Rovers the real Deal as Longford make a statement

As the world took notice of that incredible Jordan Flores volley, it was Shamrock Rovers who took control of the Premier Division title race.

“He got his leg higher than I can get my head” – Ron

It’s possible that last season Rovers would have faltered having conceded such an equalizer, but they pushed on to win 3 – 2. There’s a spark about this side, who won the FAI Cup last November. They’ve been relentless in front of goal, and have already picked up points where they dropped them last season in the Dublin Derby and against the champions. It would take some challenge to end Dundalk’s reign, but this Shamrock Rovers side looks capable.

Elsewhere Derry and Bohs look to be the contenders for the European places, while Cork finally got off the mark after a rough start. Shels deserve a lot of credit for the way they have performed so far too, they’ve been hard to beat, which is key for any newly promoted side.

In the First Division, Longford made a huge statement by going to Drogheda and picking up all 3 points. Bray Wanderers got off the mark against Wexford, while Cabinteely continued their impressive form.
