FAI Women’s Cup Quarter Finals

The 4 FAI Women’s Cup quarter finalists were decided over the weekend. Before each game a minutes silence was observed for Michael Hayes.

Galway 2 – 3 Wexford Youths

The tie of the round saw holders Wexford Youths come from behind to get past Galway. It was Galway who took the lead through a de Búrca header. Wexford equalized through Ciara Rossiter who hit a shot from a long way out that beat everybody. Vanessa Ogbonna’s strike ensured Wexford went in in front. Extratime was a very real possibility when Turrentine scored from range. Wexford would win it through last years final hero Lauren Kelly with 5 minutes to spare.

Vanessa Ogbonna joined us previously alongside teammate Blessing Kingsley to speak about being black in Irish football and how racism manifests itself, you can read about that podcast and listen by clicking here.

Peamount 1 – 0 Shelbourne

Peas had put 6 past Shels the week prior to this game in the league. It took just 13 minutes for them to go 1 – 0 up, with the ever prolific Eleanor Ryan-Doyle scoring. There wouldn’t be a repeat of the 7 goal game we saw last week. This was a tight affair with some late late defending needed.

Bohemians 1 – 3 Cork City

Cork City continued their winning run on the weekend against a Bohs side who had already played a preliminary round fixture. First half goals from Lauren Egbuloniu, Ciara McNamara, and Nathalie O’Brien had the win wrapped up in the first 35 minutes. Abbie Brophy pulled one back for Cork on the hour mark.

Treaty United 2 – 0 DLR Waves

2nd half goals from Keenan and Aoife Horgan saw Treaty through the the Cup semi-finals. Goals can be viewed below.
