Ireland Women Learn Qualifying Schedule

The Ireland women’s team will play their 2021 World Cup Qualifiers in December in a round robin European competition against Italy, Scotland, and the Rugby Europe winners. The games will be played on the weekends of the 5th, 12th, and 19th of December. The first game will be between Scotland and Italy, with Ireland expected to play the Rugby Europe winner on the same weekend. The schedule is set to be completed in early November after the Rugby Europe Championship is completed.

The winner of the competition will qualify automatically for the World Cup. The runners-up will go into a world repechage. The repechage will involve teams from other continental qualifiers. The runner-up of Europe will join the loser of the cross-regional play-off between Colombia and Kenya, and the winner of a play-off between Samoa and Tonga, as well as the 2nd ranked side in the Asia Rugby Championship.

New Zealand, England, France, USA, Canada, Australia, and Wales have already qualified for the World Cup due to their performance in 2017. South Africa and Fiji qualified through regional qualifiers. The top ranked Asia Rugby Championship side will also qualify automatically. That tournament will be contested by Hong Kong, Japan, and Kazakhstan.

Ireland will play their remaining Six Nations games at the end of October. So far they have 2 wins from 3, having beaten Scotland and Wales.

Paddy’s Day Rugby

Although we our all stuck inside, it’s still Paddy’s day, and we’re going through some great Irish rugby moments of recent times. We’ve recorded a special edition of Provincial Jazz with former Ireland and Munster star Fiona Hayes looking back at some great Irish moments.

Between the 4 Irish Provinces, there are 7 European Cups, 1 Challenge Cup, and 11 league titles (from the Celtic League, Pro12, and now Pro14). Ireland have won 4 Six Nations trophies for the men’s since 2009, 2 of which were GrandSlams, and for the women’s 2 Six Nations, with one GrandSlam. There have been some real highs for Irish rugby over the last little while.
