Wexford have finished in the top section of the league, despite still having a phase 1 game remaining against Galway.

WNL Round-Up

Ahead of the international break there were 4 games on in the Women’s National League. During the week Cork went to Treaty Utd and won 2 – 5.

Peamount Utd 2 – 1 Galway

Peamount got back to winning ways by edging out Galway on Saturday. Galway went ahead early on through McKey. Aine O’Gorman is the joint top scorer in the league, she converted from the penalty spot to put Peas level. Just before the break Karen Duggan scored a belter of a goal from 30 yards out, right in the top corner.

We could watch that Karen Duggan strike over and over again.

Treaty Utd 1 – 5 Wexford Youths

Wexford continue their challenge to regain the WNL title they last won in 2018. Young sensation Ellen Molloy made it 0 – 1 from a long range freekick. The 16-year-old has been named in Vera Pauw’s Ireland squad to face Germany, and was awarded player of the month for August. Frawley and Kelly added goals either side of halftime. Jenna Slattery got one back from the penalty spot, before Edel Kennedy got her head on the end of a freekick. Kennedy turned provider when she set up Blessing Kingsley for the 5th.

Kingsley will be on the show this Friday, we previously spoke to her and others about their experience of racism in Irish football.

Cork City 2 – 0 Athlone Town

Cork got their 3rd win on the bounce to move up to 4th. Lauren Egbuloniu continued her fine form after her return from injury with a goal before halftime. Saoirse Noonan got the 2nd.

DLR Waves 0 – 0 Bohemians

Bohs got their first ever WNL point with a draw away to DLR Waves. It was a closely contested game with a super performance by Bohs keeper Courtney Maguire.

We’ll have Aaron of The WNL Show on this Fridays Women’s National League podcast.
