WNL Round-Up: Section 2 Completes

Section 2 of the league wrapped up while the title race in section 1 is still tight.

Women’s National League Section 1

Peamount United 3-0 Cork City

In a rehearsal for the FAI Cup final next month, Peamount kept their title hopes alive with a win against Cork. Early goals from McCartan and Duggan sent Peas on their way. O’Gorman scored just past the half hour mark to seal the win. Next week Peamount take on Shelbourne with the winner becoming league champions.

Galway 0-2 Wexford Youths

Wexford all but guaranteed a 3rd place finish with a win over Galway. Orlaith Conlon opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Ellen Molloy scored just before halftime time, with a super shot from outside the box that found the bottom right corner.

Women’s National League Section 2

Athlone Town 2-1 Bohemians

In a hard fought game Athlone picked up the 3 points to end their season on a high. Emma Donohoe got both goals for the home side.

Treaty United 0-3 DLR Waves

DLR finished top of section 2 with a 0-3 win. They got their first in the 45th minute. Carla McManus got the second, her first goal for the club. Captain Catherine Cronin scored the 3rd late on.

Peamount United take on Shelbourne next week. The winner will be champions. If it is a draw Peamount would need to beat Wexford on the final day. A draw between Peamount and Shelbourne and a draw against Wexford would mean there would need to be a play-off.

The game kicks off at 6pm, and will be live streamed by the FAI.

Elsewhere Wexford Youths take on Cork on Saturday at 2pm.

WNL and FAI Women’s Round-Up

The FAI Cup finalists were decided and there were two more WNL games last weekend.

FAI Cup Semi-Finals

Wexford Youths 0-1 Peamount United

A repeat of last years final saw the same one-goal margin with a different winner. Just days after narrowly losing out to Glasgow City on penalties in the Champions League, Peamount ensured they would have a chance to seal a league and cup double. Dearbhile Beirne got the winner in the 52nd minute. It was a lively game with chances for both sides.

Cork City 2-0 Treaty United

The second semi-final was a Munster derby. Cork progressed with two goals from Saoirse Noonan.

The final will take place on Saturday December 12th in Tallaght Stadium.

Women’s National League

Shelbourne 5-0 Galway

An impressive win for Shelbourne that see’s them keep their lead to 4 points at the top of the table, having played two more games than Peamount. Pearl Slattery opened the scoring in the 8th minute. Isibeal Atkinson made it 2-0 on the half-hour mark, before Ciara Grant added a 3rd before halftime. Late in the second half Jessica Ziu and Atkinson added two more goals.

DLR Waves 0-0 Athlone Town

Not much to report on, but all the best to DLR Waves head coach Graham Kelly who is recovering from an operation.
